Export Assignments to a Google Drive Portfolio

For students that would like to maintain a collection of submitted work for later review, Moodle makes it easy to export copies of submitted work to Google Drive. Here's how:

Moodle provides a built-in export for the following types of activities:

  • Assignments
  • Chat
  • Forum posts
  • Glossary entries
  • Database entries

The following instructions are specific to Moodle Assignments. To export an assignment submission, find your assignment and click on it to see its landing page.

Once an assignment you've submitted and has been graded, you'll see a link to your submission on the landing page. Directly below your file submission is an Export to portfolio link. To send this file to your portfolio, click this link.

If your instructor has created a version of your submission with their feedback embedded within it, you'll see a link to export that feedback file too.

After clicking the export link, you'll see a window with a menu to select the destination for your portfolio export.

Choose Google Drive as your export option and click Next.

On the confirmation window that opens, click continue. This window will indicate that you are sending a copy of your assignment file to Google Drive.

If the export is successful, you'll see a new confirmation window indicating the success. If you click Continue to your portfolio in the window, you'll be taken to your Google Drive.

If your file doesn't successfully export to Google Drive, it's likely that your Moodle account has an error in it. The email address in your Moodle account should match the email address associated with your school email account. If there is a discrepancy between these accounts, your export will fail. Contact the [email protected] email for help correcting this issue.

Your Google Drive will open and you'll see a copy of your assignment file saved in it.

To organize your portfolio in your Drive, you still need to move this file to a folder for your saved portfolio. If you haven't already created a folder for your portfolio in your Drive, do so now. Then, click the three dots next to the portfolio file you just exported and select Move to and move it to your newly created portfolio folder.
