Joining a Zoom Class on a Chromebook
Your teacher has sent you an invitation to join their class online in Zoom. Can you still join even though you are using a chromebook? Yes! Here's how:
Your instructor should send you a link to the Zoom meeting in an email, through a Google calendar invitation, or even a link in a Moodle classroom. To join the Zoom session, find your instructor's Zoom link and click on it. The link may look something like the image below, beginning with "https://zoom.us/..." and ending with a string of numbers (or sometimes numbers and letters).
Clicking on the link takes you to a page that asks you to Add Zoom to Chrome. At this point, you have two options:
Join by Adding the Zoom App
On the page shown above, click on Install from Chrome Web Store.
You cannot be logged in to the chromebook as a Guest and install Chrome apps. Make sure you have logged in to the chromebook with your SCC email account before trying to install this app.
You'll see the app page for the Zoom app in the Chrome web store. Click on Add to Chrome.
If you've already added this app to your chromebook, this button will say Launch app instead.
Once you've clicked the button, you'll see a confirmation window pop open. Click Add app in this window.
After a moment, the Zoom app window should open on your chromebook. The Join a meeting screen should appear with your class session's meeting ID already filled in the top field. Enter your name in the bottom field and click Join.
Next, you'll see the Video Preview window. Click either Join with Video or Join without Video.
Congratulations! You should now be in the meeting. You'll see a small box with your name (and your video, if you joined with video) to indicate you are present.
Join without Adding the Zoom App
In some situations, you may not be able to add the Zoom app. If that's the case, click Join from your browser on the Add zoom to Chrome page.
This will take you to a page where you can enter your name before joining the meeting. Once you've entered your name, click Join.
And you are in! You should see the Zoom session running inside your browser's window.
