Using the Library

Who can check out books from the SCC library?

Any currently enrolled student, regardless of residency, and any current resident of the college district even if not a student.

What documentation is needed?

For students, the SCC ID card and a driver’s license or state-issued ID. For district residents, a driver’s license and some proof of residency, such as a utility bill.

How do people register?

Call the library at 618-634-3271 or email the library at [email protected] to register on the phone or to request the online form.

How do library users search for books and DVDs?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, campus is restricted right now to currently enrolled students and staff. Students can look through the stacks (the bookshelves) but are asked to limit touching books. Community users can call or email and describe what they are looking for to library staff, who will pull books to offer. Everyone can search the online catalog, which is available to anyone at scca.illshareit.com. (Searches can be limited to Shawnee Community College by pulling down the “Limit By” menu to the first entry, “My Library.”)

How do library users pick up their books or DVDs?

Students should just come to the library on main campus. Suggested hours are Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Community users should call or email the library to set up a time for a contactless pick up at the front door of the college.

How should items be returned?

Students can bring items to the library during open hours. Community users should contact the library to set up a contactless drop off, just like the pickup in reverse. Anyone can use the outside drop box, located near the gymnasium entrance, at any time, especially when the library is closed.

What are the library hours?

Current library hours are posted on the library webpage.
