Using the Library

Who can check out books from the SCC library?

Any currently enrolled student, including dual-credit and early enrollment students, regardless of residency, and any current student/non-student resident of the college district over the age of 18. SCC faculty and staff are also welcome to check out books.

What documentation is needed?

For students, the SCC ID card and a driver’s license or state-issued ID. For district residents, a driver’s license and some proof of residency, such as a utility bill.

How do people register?

How do library users search for books and DVDs?

Users can search the online catalog at scca.illshareit.com. A video guide with tips for searching strategies can be found here: https://youtu.be/CVv4sLwGuNQ. Users are also welcome to visit the library to browse or call the library staff at 618-634-3271 for assistance.)

How do library users pick up their books or DVDs?

Users can visit the main campus library during open hours and see library staff to pick up their item requests, or they can choose a more convenient library as their pickup location when placing an online request.

How should items be returned?

Students can bring items to the library during open hours. Anyone can use the outside drop box, located near the gymnasium entrance, at any time, especially when the library is closed. Due to Illinois Heartland Library System delivery routes, users can also drop off library items at any IHLS-member library and they will be delivered to their correct destination.
